Speakers

Chris Abbas is a Sergeant with the Minneapolis Police Department in the Fraud and Forgery Division. In 2004 Chris was named one of the top two financial crime investigators by the International Association of Financial Crime Investigators, an international organization. He was assigned to the Minnesota Financial Crimes Task Force as Commander from 1999 to 2006. His current duties at Minneapolis Police Department are to work financial crimes, which have include the major cases involving mortgage fraud, investment scams, counterfeiting and embezzlement cases. Chris is also an instructor for the Minneapolis Police Academy. Chris has been with the Minneapolis Police Department for 14 years.

Emery Adoradio has been the Senior Attorney in charge of the Complex Crimes Unit for the Hennepin County Attorney´s office since August 2003. He manages a team of attorneys responsible for the prosecution of white collar and complex crimes, including embezzlements, mortgage, insurance, tax, and contractor fraud, public corruption, bribery, and financial crimes against vulnerable adults. From 2000-2003 he was the Managing Attorney in the Juvenile Prosecution Division. Mr. Adoradio has also served as an adjunct faculty member at William Mitchell College of Law.
Adoradio received his J.D. from Washington College of Law at the American University, his M.A. in history from New York University, and his B.A. in history from the University of California at Berkeley.

Christopher N. Alexander, Assistant Vice President, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta

Ann-Marie Bartels, AAP, is President and CEO of Mid-America Payment Exchange (MPX), a not-for-profit association, headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. MPX provides payment systems and risk management education, support and industry leadership to over 2,000 financial institution and corporate members throughout nine Midwestern states.
Ms. Bartels is responsible for establishing strategic direction for the association. She currently serves on NACHA’s Risk Management Advisory Group and the Global Payments Forum. Ann-Marie is a former NACHA director and past-chair of Corporate Payments Council, and has served on the steering committees of the Council for Electronic Billing & Payment, Electronic Check Council, and Internet Council.

Pierre Cariveau has been a member of the Finance team for American Dental Partners, Minnesota Group, since 1996. As the bank liaison affiliated with the Minnesota Finance Group, Pierre is responsible for the local banking, as well as selected national activity. Pierre was the project manager for researching, implementing, and training for electronic depositing, and is the ongoing system administrator. Pierre attended the University of North Dakota and Metropolitan State University, majoring in Accounting.

Sean Carter, AAP is Senior Director of Education and Rules Development at NEACH. Sean is the main contact for rules interpretation at NEACH and developing the content for all of the various training programs. Sean is a member of the NACHA Arbitration Board and is serving his second term on the Member Rules Review panel as well as sitting on several NACHA rule workgroups. Sean received his AAP in 1999 and was re-credited in 2004. Sean joined NEACH in 1998.

Kris Draper, is an Information Technology Examiner based within the Minneapolis, Minnesota Field Office. Mr. Draper began his career with the FDIC during June of 1991 and was originally assigned to the Mankato, Minnesota Field Office. While in Mankato, Examiner Draper received his commission as a Safety and Soundness examiner and participated in numerous information technology examinations at community banks. During 1997, Mr. Draper transferred to the Minneapolis, Minnesota Field Office where he began to specialize in information technology examinations and eventually became a full-time Information Technology Examiner. As an Information Technology Examiner, Mr. Draper spends most of his time performing examinations at large/complex financial institutions, data centers, and software vendors.

Brenda Eckert, AAP is a Learning and Development Consultant with Wells Fargo’s ACH Services Department. In this role, Brenda is responsible for coordination of training and development to expand team member’s knowledge, leading to improved efficiency and quality within ACH Services as well as offer training opportunities that will further develop team members to support career advancement. Brenda obtained her AAP designation in 2004. As Wells Fargo believes strongly in the merit of the AAP designation, Brenda works closely with team members to assist in preparation for the AAP exam throughout the year. Brenda joined the ACH Services team within Wells Fargo in 2002. Prior to joining Wells Fargo’s ACH Services area, Brenda’s career was in mortgage where she held a variety of leadership positions within Fraud, Quality Control and Loan Servicing. Brenda holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Majors in Business Administration and Industrial Relations and a Minor in Economics.

Angi Farren, AAP, joined UMACHA (Upper Midwest ACH Association) in November 2007 as the Image Education Services Director. Angi has over 16 years of experience in the banking industry, primarily in the Automated Clearing House (ACH) operations, product development and risk management. Currently Angi is developing a new Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) training program and Image/RDC publications for the association. Prior to joining UMACHA, Angi served as an ACH Product Manager for TCF National Bank Minnesota. At TCF she was instrumental in developing and implementing a corporate capture product for the bank’s commercial and small business clients. Angi holds the Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) designation, is a member of the NACHA Electronic Check Council and is involved with the Electronic Check Clearing House Organization (ECCHO).

Dennis Feterl's broad financial experience over the past 20 years provides him with a unique perspective on Risk Management. His well-rounded background ranges from financial planning, finance company management, teller line experience to retail and commercial lending. Currently, Dennis is the Vice President of Treasury Services for First PREMIER Bank, overseeing the organization’s efforts to assist businesses nationwide with solutions designed to help them strengthen their financial positions. He is responsible for the sales, service, compliance and risk management of the organization’s Treasury Services relationships. Dennis has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and is a member of the UMACHA Board of Directors.

Troy Fields, AAP, has been in the banking industry for nearly 10 years in both customer service and operations. In these positions he saw the devastation caused by financial exploitation and the footprints that allow financial institutions to forecast the crime to stop it.
As Member Services Director of UMACHA Troy is responsible for all communications to UMACHA members, building relationships with other Financial Institution industry groups and new member recruitment.

Amy Fisher, AAP, is the Audit Services Director at the Upper Midwest Automated Clearing House Association (UMACHA) located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. In her role at UMACHA, she is responsible for overseeing the ACH audit functions and ACH audit training. Since joining UMACHA, Amy has completed over 200 ACH audits for financial institutions. Amy has over a decade of financial services experience in the operations and electronic payments areas. In addition to speaking for NACHA at their annual national conferences and The Payments Institute she has spoken for many other bank and credit union associations at various conferences as well as provided training and support for Minnesota Financial Crimes Task Force. She is currently on NACHA’s ACH Audit Review Product Group, DRTC Product Group, and the Destroyed Check Entries (XCK) Rules Work Group.

Pat Frazier is vice president of industry relations for Western Union. As an expert and veteran in the electronic payments industry, Patricia brings a comprehensive understanding of payment trends and remittance payments to the company. Patricia’s responsibilities at Western Union have focused on customer service management, sales and new product development, primarily serving the payment services unit of the company. Patricia’s current responsibilities include the compliance review process, representing Western Union with trade associations, and working to ensure card and NACHA compliance for Western Union products and services. Patricia also works with ATM Network providers and credit card issuers such as Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express on compliance and developing new payment solutions. Active in the payments industry for fifteen years, Patricia is committed to establishing and maintaining connections with trade associations to keep her finger on trends that could impact Western Union, as well as future compliance issues that could affect the entire industry. Patricia is a member of the Association for Financial Professionals and NACHA -The Electronic Payments Association. Patricia is a member of various subgroups within NACHA and has spoken at many conferences.

Mary Gilmeister, AAP, is the President of WACHA (The Premier Payments Resource) and an Accredited ACH Professional. Mary has been President of WACHA for 15 years. Mary has served on the NACHA (National ACH Association), Marketing Committee, the NACHA Board of Directors and chaired a Nation Wide Direct Deposit Campaign in 1998 and participated on the Federal Debit Collection Improvement Act of 1996. Mary also has served as Chairman of the Regional Payment Associations. In addition Mary has chaired many national rule making committees for NACHA and has served on many panels. Currently, Mary is participating in developing a program with the State of WI on Financial Elder Exploitation. In addition to participating on national committees Mary speaks nationally at the NACHA conference, and other conferences nation wide. She also trains the state and FDIC examiners. Mary also serves on two steering committees for NACHA’s councils, ECC (Electronic Check and Corporate Payments Council). Mary has 18 years of experience in the Financial Industry. She has worked as a branch manger, cash management officer and manager of operations deposit and loans and training coordinator. Mary holds a Certificate from Carroll College in Not for Profit Management and a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Carroll College.

Rory Guenther is commissioned as an Information Technology Examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. He has worked in various capacities at the Federal Reserve Bank since 1993. Experience includes time spent as a senior information security analyst, a technology auditor, and a financial reports analyst. This unique combination of experience in technology, finance, audit, and bank operations allows him to provide a down-to-earth perspective on technical, operational, and financial issues facing financial institutions.

Lee Harrison has been Director of Software Engineering for the Internet Solutions Division of Jack Henry & Associates Inc. since May 2006. Mr. Harrison began his career in 1992 as a data center operator. He joined Jack Henry in 2001 and performed a variety of technology-related and management positions. In this key management position, Mr. Harrison has provided oversight of the development of emerging technologies that include goDough mobile banking and multiple internet related services supporting Jack Henry's Internet banking products for both banks and credit unions.

Ellen Heffner joined ECCHO in June 2006 as Director of Product Management with a primary focus on ECCHO's rapidly growing group of Sponsoring Organizations. She provides education and support for these organizations on the need for rules, adding sponsored members and general rules questions. She previously chaired the National Paper Rules Subcommittee resulting in the "Uniform Rules for Paper Check Exchange" in January 2004. Actively involved in payments systems since 1983, Ms. Heffner has nearly 30 years of banking and payment systems experience with previous employers including community banks in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland as well as product management positions with Carreker Corporation (now part of CheckFree/FiServ) and Bank of America.

Steve Helgen, vice president within U.S. Bank’s Global Treasury Management division, leads product risk management for Treasury Management products – including ACH, Wire Transfer, Positive Pay and Depository Services. Steve joined U.S. Bank in 1982 and has previous experience managing Treasury Management operations and Financial Planning functions at US Bank. He holds a B.A. degree from St. Olaf College and an MBS from the University of Minnesota. He is a member of the NACHA Risk Management Advisory Group (RMAG).

Priscilla Holland, AAP, CCM, currently is a Senior Director of International Programs for NACHA where she leads NACHA’s international payments projects and facilitates the Global Payments Forum. She has more than 20 years experience in cash management, project management and product development. Prior to joining NACHA, Ms. Holland was a Vice President and Senior Product Manager for First Interstate Bank. She is an Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) and a permanent Certified Cash Manager (CCM).

Paul Hook, CEO, Alliance Payment Technologies

Erna Jacobchick, AAP, has twenty plus years experience with electronic payments. She currently provides technical and sales support on all electronic payment applications and initiatives for MoneyGram International as part of its Payment Products division. Her prior work history includes Assistant Vice President of ACH Operations at Zions/Amegy Bank and Bank of ND as well as Product Support Analyst for CheckFree and Optio Software. Her ACH business analysis and consultant skills have been utilized by financial institutions such as ABN-AMRO, US Central Credit Union and others during product conversions, software installations, and mergers and acquisitions. She is also experienced in cash management, product management/development, project management, and QA/user testing of ACH products.

Traci Jacobs has more than 25 years of experience in Corporate and Retail banking, bank operations, sales management and product management, including all major aspects of credit and debit card initiatives and strategic planning. Prior to joining Skylight Financial, Ms. Jacobs served as a Senior Vice President with SunTrust Bank.

Tom Kettell is the Strategic Business Manager, Emerging Markets at Epson America, Inc. – a global consumer, retail, and banking electronic solutions company.  In his role, Mr. Kettell oversees the business strategy for the banking and payments industry in North America.  Prior to Epson, Mr. Kettell held various positions in the payments industry as Vice President of Marketing for RDM Corporation – a Payment Systems Company located in Ontario, Canada, DataCard Corporation's Financial Systems business unit, and MasterCard International, as Account Vice President for the MasterCard Automated Point-of-Sale Program (MAPP).  He is knowledgeable in all aspects of card and check processing and is a specialist in payment systems at remittance and point-of-sale. Tom has over 17 years of experience in the payments industry and has been responsible for the implementation of many large-scale payment solutions in North America.  He is a current member of the NACHA Rules Work Group, Global Concepts Check Forum, the TAWPI Payments Capture and Clearing Council, ECCHO Operations Committee, and NACHA’s Electronic Check Council.  Tom has a Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University in New York and resides in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

Debbie Koller has been with the Federal Reserve Bank for 28 years. She has served as AVP in FedACH since Nov 2003, with responsibility for the FedACH central operations site and the central business application functions (CBAF) including operations, quality assurance and technical support, and business and analytical support. Prior to her current officer position, Debbie worked in analytical and management capacities in Automation, Cash, Network Services, Customer Service, and Check areas of the Bank.

Roger Leblond is an Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Lone Star National Bank in Pharr, Texas. At year-end December 31, 2007, Total Assets were $1.5 billion. The bank has 19 branches, 32 ATMs --- 19 envelope less deposit atms. The bank introduced Mobile Banking in November, 2007. Mr. Leblond has 35 years experience in banking. He has an Accounting Degree and is a Graduate of B.A.I School of Operations from University of Wisconsin.

Deborah Matthews, AAP: As the Electronic Payments Strategies Director for the Enterprise Payments Group at Jack Henry & Associates/ProfitStars, Deborah combines her expertise in market intelligence, payments industry issues, compliance and marketing to drive strategy and innovation. Deborah has more than 20 years experience in marketing in the financial services, not-for-profit and consumer products industries. She is actively involved in various industry councils, serving on the steering committee of NACHA’s Electronic Check Council and co-chair of ECC’s Communications workgroup; and also currently serving as the Internet Council’s marketing and education coordinator. She is a recognized speaker, presenting at national and regional venues and is a frequent contributor to a wide variety of magazines and trade publications. Deborah received industry recognition for numerous corporate marketing campaigns and earned the prestigious AAP (Accredited ACH Professional) designation in 2001. Her industry experience includes serving as director of marketing and member services at SWACHA-The Electronic Payments Resource and as vice president of marketing for a large transaction processing company. Deborah earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Northwestern University.

John McCullough, President, Retailers Protection Association (RPA), is a highly sought-after speaker on fraud and security issues.  John’s vision and insight in many areas of fraud have also been instrumental in his role as Business Coordinator on the Minnesota Financial Crimes Task Force, a group that provides guidance in investigating and prosecuting identity theft and financial crimes.  Prior to his position at RPA, he was in charge of loss prevention for the Department Store Division of Target Corporation for 23 years, where he developed protection standards and fraud controls for Target stores. Mr. McCullough is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Jon Michelsen: As Vice President of Fiserv ITI, Michelsen’s responsibilities focus on delivering comprehensive e-commerce services, including Internet banking, mobile banking,Web design and development, portals and Internet security. In 2008, he was named Fiserv Head of Business Development. Michelsen began his career with ITI in 1983, and has served the organization in a variety of increasingly senior roles since that time.
A native Nebraskan, Michelsen received a BA in Business Administration from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, and is also a graduate of the BAI School of Banking. Active in his community, Michelsen especially enjoys membership in his church choir and the Abendmusik Chorus. He and his wife, Joan, live in Lincoln and have three children.

Michelle Miller, Customer Experience & eCommerce Officer, The RiverBank

Jon Mikolajczak is the FedACH Training and Development Specialist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. His responsibilities include the development, design and facilitation of training specific to ACH and various Federal Reserve products and services offered to financial institutions. Prior to joining the team at the Federal Reserve Bank in 2005, he worked as trainer and instructional designer for Target Corporation and as classroom teacher in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Donna Olheiser, AAP, joined UMACHA in September 2005. Donna, the Payment Education Services Director, is responsible for the development and delivery of training on a variety of ACH-related topics for nearly 900 members via webinars, teleseminars and in-person workshops. Donna received her Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) designation in 2004 and holds a Professional Certification as a Master Trainer from Langevin Learning Services. Prior to joining UMACHA, Donna gained her experience while working for the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis for 14 years, holding positions in several departments, including FedACH Central Operations as the Training and Development Specialist.

Andrée Ortega is a Vice President and Product Manager for Wells Fargo's ACH Services. She is responsible for product strategy and product development for Direct Origination, ACH Inquiry, ACH Deletes & Reversals, Perfect ReceivablesSM Service and ACH Fraud Filter. Ortega has been with Wells Fargo/Norwest for more than 20 years. In that time she has held a number of positions including ACH Operations Department Manager, Treasury Management Systems Analyst, Project Manager and ACH Technical Sales Consultant for the Treasury Management product team. Ortega is a Certified Treasury Professional and an Accredited ACH Professional. She holds a BSBA from the University of Albuquerque.

Tim Schmidt, as Vice President within U.S. Bank’s Global Treasury Management division, currently leads the electronic payments team with product responsibility for ACH, Wire Transfer, Consolidated Payables, Tax and Pay Card solutions. Tim joined U.S. Bank in 1996 and has previous experience with Web-based Cash Management product development and other banking operations roles.

Stephanie Schmitt, is Vice President of Commercial Product Management for U.S. Bank.  Stephanie is the team leader of U.S. Bank’s check conversion product suite, including On-Site Electronic Deposit, a remote deposit capture solution. Prior to joining U.S. Bank in 2004, Stephanie was Director of Product Management for Vital Processing Services (currently TSYS Acquiring Solutions) in Phoenix, Arizona.  At Vital Processing Services, she held positions in Product Management and Product Development. Stephanie has a bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and holds a master of international management degree from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, AZ.

Murali Subbarao brings over 16 years of experience in high-tech industry. Previously, he was Senior Director, Strategy and Alliances, for the Financial Services Business Unit of Hewlett-Packard, developing solutions for Internet Banking, CRM, B2B Payments, and Electronic Exchanges for financial institutions worldwide. He has also served as VP of Business Development at Arula Systems, a provider of remote management appliances, and as COO at Imeco Ultrasonics. Subbarao has an MBA from UC Berkeley, MS in Computer Science from University of Wisconsin, Madison, and B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India.

Sean Sullivan is a former community bank executive whose hands-on experience includes electronic banking, payment processing, collections, fraud, and credit approval operations. For more than 12 years, he has excelled in the areas of operations leadership and financial institution process improvement; reducing costs and improving productivity. He guides CFC Technology customers in the establishment of the strategic vision for their operations, while helping address the challenges associated with complying with regulations, improving workflows and introducing new efficiencies through technology. He will also facilitate support and the reinforcement of the mutual goals among a customer’s front-office and back-office departments.

Claudia Swenseid, senior vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, chairs the Financial Services Council (FSC), a committee of the managers of the Federal Reserve's financial services business. The FSC focuses on cross-business matters of importance to these services, which are ACH, cash, check (paper and electronic), electronic access, wire transfer, national settlement, securities, and treasury services. Swendseid also oversees, on behalf of the Federal Reserve System, the Electronic Access Customer Contact Center, which is based at the Federal reserve Bank of Minneapolis. She is also the senior officer over the Check Department for the Ninth Federal Reserve District. In the past three years, Swendseid has participated in industry efforts focused on payments fraud, representing Federal Reserve Financial Services and has led a fraud reserch project sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. Swendseid is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on subjects ranging from payments system basics, payments innovation and trends, and, more recently, payments fraud.

Cheryl Venable is Senior Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. She oversees Information Technology for the Ninth District and FedACH operations and automation for both the Minneapolis and Atlanta Federal Reserve Banks. In addition to these responsibilities, Cheryl serves in a leadership capacity for various System groups such as the Technology Services Council Application Development Leadership Team, the Financial Services Council Cross-Business Application Developers Group, and the Technology Services Council. Cheryl began her career at the Minneapolis Federal Reserve in 1996 as a management consultant in FedACH. In 1999 she transferred to Information Technology as a manager before returning to FedACH as an assistant vice president. Cheryl was named vice president of FedACH in 2002 and senior vice president in 2008, assuming her current responsibilities. Prior to joining the Minneapolis Fed, Cheryl worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis for five years and held a variety of positions in departments such as Payments System Risk, Treasury Services, and FedACH. Cheryl received her bachelor’s degree in finance and economics and her M.B.A. from St. Louis University.

Michelle Walstad has more than 20 years of bank operations, bank security, and information technology experience. As vice president of operations for a community bank, Michelle created and implemented operational policies and procedures, including security, information security and business continuation programs. In her security officer role at a financial data processing center, Michelle was responsible for the creation and annual testing of complex business continuation plans. She was also responsible for security and audit compliance in a highly-regulated environment, and successfully guided the processing center through multiple FFIEC examinations.

Casey Wilcox, AAP, is Vice President of Sales at Clear2Pay.  Mr. Wilcox joined Clear2Pay in 2008 after spending 9 years with Fundtech Corporations. He has over 16 years of banking and financial services experience. Mr. Wilcox spent 7 years at Bank One Corp in Treasury Management Sales, Operations, Product and Business Banking. Mr. Wilcox is active in numerous industry affiliations including AFP and NACHA, and has been a featured speaker at several regional ACH and Payments Conferences. Mr. Wilcox completed a double Major - BBA in Finance and Biomedical Science, at the University of North Texas.

Rachel Williams has been a US Postal Inspector for 5 years conducting investigations involving identity theft, mortgage fraud, investments fraud/schemes, internet fraud, child exploitation, mail theft and other financial crimes. Shie is currently assigned to the Mail Fraud team for the State of Minnesota.

Stuart Williams is the Director of Payment Services for CheckFree - now part of Fiserv. In this position, he maintains an active role within the payments industry on behalf of CheckFree, while also assisting in product innovation. Williams originally joined CheckFree in 1989, and in addition to his current position has also served as Director of Strategic Planning for the Software Division, managing the business development and product management functions for the company’s ACH Business Unit. Williams has 18 years of experience in the payments industry. He has worked with a variety of corporations, government agencies and the top 100 financial institutions across the country to implement and support electronic payment and check electronification strategies. Williams has held active roles with NACHA and several regional ACH organizations. Currently, he an active member or participant on three NACHA councils, including The Council of Electronic Billing and Payment (CEBP), the Electronic Check Council as a Steering Committee member (ECC) and The Internet Council (TIC). Further, he maintains active roles on the Software Information Exchange (SIX) and is a member of the NACHA Board of Regents for The Payments Institute. In addition to co-chairing NACHA’s Pay it Green Alliance, Williams is a frequent speaker at a variety of national and regional conferences. Williams graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, majoring in Computer Information Systems.
